Slow advances were made in weed technology over 10,000 yr as agriculture progressed from hand weeding to the use of hand tools, animal power, cultural practices, mechanical power, biological controls, and most recently to chemical control.
3 Since preparing this talk it has come to my attention that the America Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) held a Scientific Dispute Resolution Conference to produce a consensus report on 2,4,5-T. The objective was to test a mechanism by which differences among scientists could be resolved. Fifty-six scientists from around the world representing medicine, toxicology, chemistry, ecology, and agriculture participated.
