Extract

I would start with a text from Bacon's New Atlantis that reads: “Men ought to know that in the theatre of human life it is only for gods and angels to be spectators.” We are at a stage of societal evolution where we must be part of the action. And action there is today – by politicians, by regulatory agencies, by industry, by scientists, by educators, and by the general public. Our basic challenge is to become a meaningful part of the action mechanism. And we are not alone among scientists trying to find our way in a very concerned and a very confused world. Science itself is suspect today.
