Abstract

Ester derivatives of (2,4-dichlorophenoxy)acetic acid (2,4-D), 4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)butyric acid (2,4-DB), 4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)crotonic acid, and 4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy-β-hydroxy)butyric acid each were applied to alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.). Analysis of alfalfa extracts by gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy indicated 2-carbon additions to the aliphatic side chain of the applied chlorophenoxy compounds.
