The Brownings' Correspondence: Supplement No. 4 to the Checklist

Published online by Cambridge University Press:  24 October 2008

Extract

Another year has passed, and once again we take this opportunity of updating our Checklist. It has been another fruitful year, thanks in large part to the very gratifying help we are receiving from Browning scholars. This supplement contains 277 entries–less than in previous supplements, but still containing an impressive proportion of totally new entries: 173. In addition to these new-found letters, we now know the present location of 35 letters whose whereabouts we had not previously established, and new locations for 17 letters that have changed hands. Quotations from catalogue sources have been added to 13 letters, and 9 have been redated as a result of further research in the course of editorial work on the early volumes of the Brownings' correspondence.
