To Wordsworth, the source of these “intimations” seemed clear; it will be remembered that in the Ode bearing this title he says:

“Not in entire forgetfiulness,

And not in untter nakedness,

But trailing clouds of glory do we come

From God, who is our home:

Heaven lies about us in our infancy!“
