Obsessional neurosis is generally considered to have a poor prognosis (Farr and Stewart, 1942; Müller, 1953; Rüdin, 1953; Ingram, 1961; Noyes and Kolb, 1963; Kringlen, 1965). Factors adversely affecting prognosis include early onset of symptoms, premorbid obsessional personality and the emergence of complications.
