page 26 note 1 Melody Study I was first performed by the ensemble ‘Intermodulation’, directed by the composer, at the Round House on April 28, as part of the English Bach Festival. Melody Study II, commissioned by the Nash Concert Society, was first performed by the Nash Ensemble at the Purcell Room on May 13.

page 29 note 1 Commissioned by the New Philharmonia Orchestra for their visit to the World Fair at Osaka, and first performed by them at the Festival Hall, London, on May 9. The conductor was Edward Dowries.
