Stellar Populations and Peculiar Velocities of Elliptical Galaxies

Abstract
The estimated distances of elliptical galaxies, as determined by the Dn – σ technique, can be affected by stellar population variations and perhaps also dynamical effects due to mergers, leading to spuriously large positive peculiar velocities.
