It is with the heaviest of hearts that the Editors of SSLA, past and present, acknowledge the passing of Professor Kimberly Geeslin. Our dear colleague served as Associate Editor of SSLA from 2015 until her untimely passing in late January 2023; she was also Professor and Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs at Indiana University. But she was so much more than what is evident in these roles and titles. As noted in other memorials and as attested by anyone who had the fortune to interact with her, Kim was a brilliant scholar, a Solomonic editor, an indefatigable mentor, and a fierce supporter of colleagues.
In her capacity as Associate Editor, Kim handled manuscripts with aplomb and with the utmost of professionalism. She was demanding but fair, efficient but thorough, incredibly knowledgeable but aware of her own limitations and biases. Kim was also key to the journal’s transition from Indiana University, where it had been launched and had ‘lived’ since the late 1970s, to Michigan State in 2015 when she joined the editorial team.
We are deeply saddened by this loss, felt throughout the applied linguistics community and, of course, among her dear family, friends, and colleagues all over the world.
