Recent advances in parallel and service robotics, from development to applications
15 Mar 2024 to 15 Mar 2025

Aims & Scope:

Parallel robots have gained significant attention from both academia and industry thanks to their compact structure, low inertia, and quick dynamic response. Consequently, the development and application of parallel robots have become increasingly attractive topics in recent years. More recently, emerging types of parallel robotic devices including soft/continuum robots, cable-driven robots, under actuated robots, multi-finger hands, and more, have been introduced bringing forth new scientific challenges in the realms of design, modelling, and control.

Moreover, all the enabling technologies developed for parallel robots are also fundamental for service robots. According to International Federation of robotics report, World Robotics 2022 - Service Robots, will exhibit a strong double-digit growth rates, and this fact is pushing the research and industrial activities.

This Special Issue aims to showcase the latest research accomplishments, findings, and concepts in the areas of parallel and service robotics, specifically focusing on optimal design, innovative solutions, motion control, and accuracy assurance.

The focus of this special issue is to highlight high-quality extended papers presented at the 8th IFToMM International Symposium on Robotics & Mechatronics (ISRM 2024) and at The 5th International Conference of IFToMM Italy (IFIT 2024).

Papers are welcome on topics that are related to the areas of parallel robotics and dealing with, but not limited to:

  • mechanism design
  • modeling and simulation
  • kinematics and dynamics of multibody systems
  • control methods
  • navigation and motion planning
  • wearable devices
  • biomechanics and bio-robotics
  • micro/nano-robotics
  • complex robotic systems
  • walking machines, humanoids
  • parallel kinematic structures: analysis and synthesis
  • smart devices
  • new design, application, and prototypes
  • professional service robots
  • customer service robots.
