Quotations are (more or less seriously) garbled on pp. 31, 91, 161, 162, 163; the sentence at the top of p. 143 is addled; in the third note on p. 160 the title of a book is incorrectly given. Condign punishment, such as boiling in oil, should be meted out to the publishers, who have not only relegated the notes to the back of the book but also failed to provide clues to the pages to which they apply.
