1 George deF. Lord who consulted Eng. poet, d.49 for his edition of the poetry (N.Y., 1968) and for the satires appearing in Poems on Affairs of State, 1660-1678 (Yale University Press, 1963) purports to find in the manuscript a system of crosses and check marks, the one added to titles to indicate their authenticity, the other added to lines of poetry (as in 'The Loyal Scot') to indicate their spuriousness!

2 E.g., pouses for poures, p. 16; strk' for strok', p. 79; Vogel for Fogel, p. 350. There are some wrong ascriptions and omissions of variants (e.g., p. 373, 1. 951; p. 103, 1. 137, where the reading of one of the two uncancelled copies of the Folio concurs with that of Eng. poet. d. 49).
