Call for Asia-Based Editor Proposals

With the goal of supporting a global editorial operation of authorship and readership, Psychological Medicine is excited to expand our editorial team into Asia, joining our existing offices in both the United Kingdom and United States. Cambridge is now inviting applications for a new, Asia-based Co-Editor-in-Chief for a five-year appointment beginning in the summer of 2025.

Psychological Medicine is a leading international journal in the fields of psychiatry, clinical psychology and the related basic sciences. The journal includes original articles reporting key research being undertaken worldwide, together with literature reviews and shorter editorials by distinguished scholars. 

Interested applicants should send a curriculum vita and cover letter along with an abbreviated development plan (not to exceed two pages) and the names and email addresses of three references, to Jessica Basile at Cambridge University Press (details below). Applications will be reviewed by committee, and final appointment decisions will be made by the Syndicate of Cambridge University Press. 

The successful candidate will join Co-EiCs in the existing UK and US based editorial offices, to lead the journal’s editorial team. Responsibilities will include:

  • Shaping the strategic direction of the journal, in cooperation with Cambridge and the Co-EiCs.
  • Overseeing the Journal’s new Asia-based editorial office (using the Editorial Manager online submission system), including working with Cambridge to appoint an Associate Editor in the region
  • Making final article acceptance decisions
  • Establishing and maintaining an active and diverse Editorial Board, in cooperation with the Co-EiCs


In your application, please indicate your:

  • Experience of publishing in the field
  • Editorial experience, ideally with an academic journal
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work as part of a team
  • Strong and international professional and academic links
  • Organizational, communication and technical skills
  • Institutional support, financial or otherwise, to support your work on the journal
  • Proposed plan for development, including areas such as:
    • Engagement of journal reviewers and editorial board members
    • Recommendations for content development, including new directions for the journal/areas of focus for future special issues
