Alan Abramowitz, Alben W. Barkley Professor of Political Science, Emory University, participated in an interdisciplinary panel evaluating Pope Francis’s speech to Congress in September 2015.

Jeremy Bailey, Ross M. Lence Distinguished Teaching Chair and associate professor of political science, University of Houston, gave a Constitution Day presentation “What Makes the Constitution the Authority” at Louisiana Tech University, October 2015.

Patrick T. Brandt, professor of political science, principle investigator; Jennifer Holmes, professor and program head of political science, public policy and political economy; and Vito D’Orazio, assistant professor of political science, University of Texas, Dallas received an interdisciplinary grant from the National Science Foundation to create a research tool that uses big data to provide updated information on civil protests and unrest, and international conflicts.

Aaron Herold, visiting assistant professor of political science, gave the free public talk “Religion in Constitutional Law and the Public Square” at College of the Holy Cross in September 2015.

Colleen Sheehan, professor of political science and director of The Matthew J. Ryan Center at Villanova University; Greg Weiner, assistant professor of political science at Assumption College; and Jeremy Bailey, associate professor of political science at the University of Houston—all scholars of James Madison—participated in a panel “Madison Scholars for Constitution Day” organized by College of the Holy Cross and Assumption College, in September, 2015.

Richard L. Hasen, professor, law and political science, University of California, Irvine, presented a public address on campaign finance and election law issues at a Chico State University event celebrating Constitution Day, September 2015.

Jennifer Holmes, professor and program head of political science, public policy and political economy, University of Texas, Dallas, is co-principle investigator of a study funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation to study Colombia’s response to five decades of attacks on its electrical grids, pipelines, power transmission lines, bridges, and other infrastructure due to conflict.

Scott Huffmon, professor of political science, Winthrop University, participated in panel of experts at University of Southern Carolina, Presidential Symposium in September, 2015.

At Shepherd University, Stephanie Slocum-Schaffer, chair, department of political science; Max Guirguis, professor of political science; Robert Anthony, assistant professor of sociology; Aart Holtslag, assistant professor of political science; and Jacob Stump, assistant professor of political science held a teach-in event called “Immigration Crisis? A Broader Perspective,” in September 2015.

Helena Stensöta, associate professor and senior lecturer, political science department, University of Göteborg, presented a WiSE seminar in October 2015 on creating an environment of equal opportunities.

Vera Troeger, professor, University of Warwick, presented “The Politics of Strategic Budgeteering” at the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse in September 2015.

Jeffrey Tulis, associate professor, department of government, University of Texas at Austin, presented a lecture “The Anti-Federal Appropriation of the Constitution” as part of Constitution Day at Baylor University’s College of Arts and Sciences in September 2015.

AWARDS

Richard Arnold, associate professor of political science, Muskingum University, received the William Rainey Harper Award for Outstanding Scholarship for his prolific scholarship.

Mark R. Joslyn was awarded the Gene A. Budig Teaching Professorship for 2015–16, University of Kansas.

Kelly McMann, associate professor of political science and director of the International Studies Program, Case Western Reserve University, received honorable mention for her book, Corruption as a Last Resort: Adapting to the Market in Central Asia (Cornell 2014), for the Ed A. Hewett Book Prize.

John Sides, associate professor, political science, George Washington University, was among the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill’s Distinguished Young Alumni Award recipients for his work on The Monkey Cage political blog which he cofounded in 2007.
