(1) The proposition in question is stated as follows:— “Ponamus (enim) inter quantitates, x, x1, …, xndatas esse totidem aequationes

in quibus α, α1 … sint Constantes: dico Determinans

non mutare valorem si functiones f, f1, …, fn varias subeant mutationes quales per aequationes propositas subire possunt, ita tamen ut funetioni alicui fi transmutandae non ipsa adhibeatur aequatio f1 = aj.”
