This paper describes environmental monitoring which has been carried out in the Moray Firth. Three areas of potential impact have been examined; the cryolite recovery sludge dumping ground in the inner Moray Firth, the Beatrice Oilfield, and the Nigg oil terminal. The monitoring objectives are described, some results are presented, and the scale of effects compared. In each case the effects are very localised and there was no evidence of any potential threat to fisheries.
