The breeding bird community of managed and unmanaged willow scrub at Leighton Moss, Lancashire
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 05 December 2011
Synopsis
Coppiced willow supports a much higher density of breeding birds than unmanaged more mature willow. This appears to be because it retains richer vegetation cover, especially in the herb layer, and so provides more breeding and feeding sites for both marsh and woodland birds.
