Filippo Mattei was born at Bologna. Handel doubtless made his acquaintance at Rome in 1707. A letter addressed by E. Gouge, the painter, to Sir John Percival, from Rome, 18th June, 1707, reads “they have every Friday a concert very fine at Mr. Brown's.
