This issue of Powder Diffraction is dedicated to the memory of Frank McClune. Frank who passed away November 1, 2013, worked for 37 years at ICDD including 20 years as ICDD Editor-in-Chief before retiring in 2006. Though in reality the word retired was not in Frank's vocabulary since he continued to be active at ICDD as Editor Emeritus. Frank was an ICDD Fellow and in 2006 he was designated an ICDD Distinguished Fellow.

Frank also had a significant role in Powder Diffraction Journal. For many years, Frank served as the Editor for New Diffraction Data for PDJ. His efforts helped to provide readers of this journal with early access to powder diffraction data as well as insuring these data were added to the Powder Diffraction File, PDF.

Frank enjoyed working on puzzles, was an avid reader, and perhaps best known by his friends and colleagues for his love of clams. One of his favorite activities was digging for clams, and perhaps his favorite thing to do was to prepare and eat anything made with the clams he found. We all benefit and appreciate Frank's many years of dedicated editing of the ICDD PDF database and PDJ new data, and those who knew him know the real benefit was the opportunity we had to work with a great person.
