Words and phrases commonly used to describe the women's vote in 2004 ranged from “much-coveted,” “vital,” “swing,” “heavily sought after,” and “diverse” to “the largest and most pivotal voting group” and “a challenge for each candidate to reach.” Political strategists, analysts, and scholars were cognizant that women had decided every presidential election since 1980.
