In retrospect, membership of the British Graham Land Expedition 1934–1937 was a special experience, never to be repeated. Apart from one's personal growth in years, there is a personal growth in consciousness and perspective: that surely comes to us all. It is both welcoming and saddening. If only, long ago as young men, we had been then more conscious and understanding.
