* For information on the history of our Federation and its journal as well as of modern foreign language teaching in this country and the activities in that field, I refer to Professor Henry Grattan Doyle's article published in 1956 in the October issue of the Modern Language Journal, entitled “The Modern Foreign Languages: A Chronicle of Achievement,” and to the jubilee issue of the journal published in January 1941. In several of the articles which appear in that anniversary issue, our predecessors and collaborators in the Federation recall the significant events in the life of our organization and its publication.
