1 I call a philosophy “untimely” if it is based on beliefs which are no longer credible, but contradict common sense and contemporary scientific knowledge. “Untimely” should not be confused with “unfashionable.” A philosophy may be timely and nevertheless opposed to the fashion of the day. Similar problems arise concerning some religious beliefs.
