This issue contains a selection of the Contributed Papers that were accepted for presentation at the 2022 biennial meeting of the Philosophy of Science Association in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A second special issue, with selected papers written from Symposia at this meeting, will be published next year. The 2022 PSA was notable for strength of the junior members of the field and for the diversity of topics that were presented. These papers highlight many new avenues of research and topics for discussion that we can expect to see much more of in the coming decade.

The Presidential Address for the PSA is an opportunity for honored scholars completing their elected term as President to share their work with the field, and is included in special issues associated with PSA meetings. The PSA President (2021–2022), John Dupré, will share his address in the Symposia special issue (2024). This special issue contains the Presidential Address of Alison Wylie (2019–2020), whose Address was postponed from the previous meeting and delivered in Pittsburgh.

The Program Committee members for the 2022 PSA deserve a great deal of appreciation for the huge reviewing task they accomplished here. The work of the Program Committee is central to the PSA meetings, as they review all contributions in the main program, as well as reviewing submissions for publication in these two special issues. This round of reviewing was especially complicated as they also had to navigate several platform changes and technical difficulties in accomplishing their task. They were careful, thorough, and detailed in their work, and constructive in discussions throughout. Their careful, diligent, and clear work throughout exemplified fairness and integrity in service work.

President John Dupré guided this meeting of the PSA through a change in Executive Directorship for the Association. His level-headed leadership through the disruptions of the 2020/2021 conference and the planning for the 2022 conference are greatly appreciated. Thanks also to the new Executive Director Max Cormendy, who had the difficult task of stepping into the reviewing process mid-leap, and the PSA office staff who saw it through to the final version on Dryfta. The Executive Director and office staff brought together a fantastic conference that launches the PSA organization and membership into the future. I am grateful to former program Chairs Kevin Elliott and Angela Potochnik, who were generous with advice and helpful through this process.

This was the PSA of many transitions: the directorship of the Association as well as the journal’s press for the journal, and its editorial home. Thanks to Andrea Woody and Kayla Mehl Hutchinson, who oversaw the beginning of this process, and to James Weatherall and Margaret Farrell, for their help in putting together this and the next issue.

The 2022 PSA was a meeting bursting with enthusiasm, lively discussion, and exciting new connections. I hope that some of that energy comes through in this special issue as well.
