page xxiv note 1 These votes, confirming the action of the Council at its meeting in Philadelphia, were taken as a measure of precaution lest some one should say that a meeting of our Board of Directors held outside the State of New York was illegal. Subsequently the Secretary consulted the legal adviser of the Society, Mr. Carmody, who assured him that there could be no doubt of the legality of a regularly called meeting of the Council held outside the State of New York.
