The author regrets the inclusion of two errors in the above article:

On page 2 the sentence reads:

‘Similarly, Le Ménestrel was put out by Heugel, a prominent publisher of operas (by Offenbach and Massenet, among others) and lasted for a century (1840-1940).’

The correct sentence is:

‘Similarly, Le Ménestrel was put out from 1840 onwards by the Heugel firm, a prominent publisher of operas (by Offenbach and Massenet, among others). The journal lasted for over a century (1833-1940).’

On page 14:

‘Olivia's love nest’

should be:

‘Olympia's love nest’
