Transitory Metastable Phases in Refractory Metals-Based Systems Solidified by Drop-Tube Processing: A First-Principles Approach
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 10 February 2011
Abstract
Refractory metals and alloys are deeply undercooled in an ultrahigh vacuum drop-tube facility. During rapid solidification, some brightness traces give evidences of two successive phase transformations. First-principles calculations of the structural stability in these systems are developed to appreciate the possibilities of obtaining metastable phases.
