The Relation between Porosity and Solidification Mechanism in Grey Cast Iron

Abstract

The factors resulting in porosity in various types of cast iron were fairly well understood by 1960. These factors are now reviewed. The importance of the details of the solidification sequence is stressed and the special features of the eutectic reaction in nodular cast iron are emphasized.
