Abstract

Results of plastic deformation experiments on two quasicrystalline phases of different structure, icosahedral Al-Pd-Mn and decagonal Al-Ni-Co, and of an approximant phase, ξ'-Al-Pd-Mn, are described. They are interpreted on the basis of a model for the deformation process, the clusterfriction model, which is discussed in a number of modifications.
