Microwave Processing of Polymers - An Overview

Abstract

This paper surveys some of the recent research into the microwave processing of polymers. The mechanism of coupling of the radiation with polymers is described and a historical perspective is presented on the development of this technology from the 1960's when the processing of rubber was first initiated, to current research in high performance materials and composites. The controversial area of microwave effects on processing is also discussed.
