Abstract

Thermal activation of <123> germanium single crystal deformation is studied by using stress-relaxation experiments. These exhibit a non logarithmic dependence of stress as a function of time. The athermal component of stress and the apparent activation volume are determined. The role of dislocation multiplication is discussed in terms of specific features of the monotonic and transient deformation behaviour.
