Abstract

The solid-state transformations following rapid solidification of intermetallics can include ordering of primary disordered phase(s), resulting in anti-phase domain boundaries (APDBs). The present work focuses on the Ni-Al system. A qualitative model for solid-state ordering, originally developed by Chen and Khachaturyan [1] has been modified to simulate the APD formation during solidification of a disordered phase. An interpretation is suggested for the formation of various APD patterns observed in sequentially ordered Ni3Al.
