Silicon Carbide Whisker Reinforced Aluminum with Improved Temperature Resistance Due to the Use of a Phosphate Binder
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 26 February 2011
Abstract
Silicon carbide whisker reinforced aluminum with improved temperature resistance, increased tensile strength and decreased coefficient of thermal expansion was obtained by using a phosphate binder instead of a commonly used silica binder for preparing the SiC whisker preform, to which liquid aluminum was infiltrated in order to form the composite. The composite is attractive for applications as a heat sink with a low coefficient of thermal expansion.
