The Materials Research Society (MRS) and the Sociedad Mexicana de Materiales (SMM) are excited to be working together to host the International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) held annually in Cancún, Mexico. The XXVI IMRC will be held August 20–25, 2017. The Meeting Chairs are Sergei V. Kalinin, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (USA); Ana María Martínez Vázquez, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico); Arturo Ponce-Pedraza, The University of Texas at San Antonio (USA); and Stoyan K. Smoukov, University of Cambridge (UK).

The Congress will feature 49 symposia covering nanoscience and nanotechnology; materials for energy applications; soft matter and biomaterials; structural materials; materials characterization; functional materials; materials for electronic, magnetic, and optical devices; and general materials science.

Several tutorials will also be offered to complement the symposium sessions, including Biomaterials for Osseointegrated Implants, Computational Methods in Catalysis and Electronic Structure of Low-Dimension Materials, and Mentoring Young Scientists.

Everyone registered for the meeting may take part in the third NANOMXCN (NANO-Mex-China) on August 19–20:“Mexico-China Workshop on Nano Materials/Science/Technology: Renewable Energy and Environmental Remediation.” The project aims to promote collaboration between Mexico and China, including the Hong Kong SAR.

Plenary speakers at this year’s event are Hans Joachim Freund, Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, Germany; Stephen J. Pennycook, National University of Singapore, Singapore; Dennis Russell Salahub, University of Calgary, Canada; Orlando Auciello, The University of Texas at Dallas, USA; Angela Belcher, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA; and Alan Lindsay Greer, University of Cambridge, UK.

To promote postgraduate degrees in materials science and engineering and related areas, the Mexican Society of Materials will organize an exhibition with the IMRC. There will also be an exhibit of instrumental products and services in the field of materials science and related topics, with participation from world-renowned companies.

This annual meeting provides an exciting multidisciplinary stage to present new directions in materials research and technology, as well as opportunities to exchange ideas with some of the foremost experts in the field. IMRC has become a leading conference with approximately 1800 attendees from more than 40 countries.
