Poorly forecast trough disruption shown in water vapour images

Abstract

A poor forecast of an ex-tropical depression over the UK is examined. The water vapour imagery presented strongly implied an evolution diverging from the operational NWP forecast; it is suggested that such image sequences can be used to monitor upper level flow evolution for early warning of trough disruption.
