It appears to have been customary, from the most ancient boo] on the subject to the most modern, to analyse the relationsh between distributed load function q, shearing force V, and bendii moment M, acting on a beam (Fig. 1) by considering the translation and rotational equilibrium of an element of the beam (Fig. 2).
