1 Alicia Kopfstein-Penk, “Leonard Bernstein's ‘Young People's Concerts’: Context and Canons,” (PhD diss., Catholic University of America, 2012).
2 The most comprehensive dissertation on this topic until now, other than Kopfstein-Penk's, has been Brian Rozen's “The Contributions of Leonard Bernstein to Music Education: An Analysis of his 53 Young People's Concerts” (PhD diss., University of Rochester, 1997). There are a few other examples, including John MacInnis's “Leonard Bernstein's and Roger Englander's Educational Mission: Music Appreciation and the 1961–62 Season of Young People's Concerts” (MM thesis, Florida State University, 2009); and Franklin Peynado's “Leonard Bernstein: Music Educator” (MAT thesis, Florida Atlantic University, 1995). In addition, former Bernstein assistant and scholar Jack Gottlieb served as editor for the book, Leonard Bernstein's Young People's Concerts (New York: Anchor Books, 1992), which provided the transcripts of the episodes.
