In bringing forward a scheme for the conversion of the Arabic character to the Latin—the second most widely spread alphabet of the world to the first—a word may be said as to the objections which the mere mention of such a proposal invariably evolves.

1 It is not absolutely necessary to have a system of transliteration in order to enable a type-writer to be used. As a mechanical expert I have no hesitation in saying that with a very slight alteration the ordinary type-writer could be adapted to the Arabic character.
