2 Dr. Ipsen has repeatedly contended that the IEur. “cow” is borrowed from an old Sumerian gu(d). We do not believe this, and besides that would not help us here, as the final -d should have disappeared in Sumerian efe the word was borrowed by the original Indo-Europeans.
