A re-examination of mucus feeding by the sea cucumber Leptopentacta ( = Cucumaria) elongata

From observations in the aquarium and by a morphological study of the feeding tentacles it is concluded that Leptopentacta elongata is not, as is commonly supposed, a mucus suspension feeder, but feeds on deposited material by mechanical entrapment with the aid of sticky papillae on the tentacle buds.
