page 21 note * The claims appear small, compared with the sums assured; but a proportion only of the latter (less than half) is for the whole continuance of life. The rest are deferred or contingent assurances, &c. Amongst the annuities a very large proportion are immediate annuities, which thus increases the amount of single and annual premiums received.
