2 Both the translation of the Böhm and Wieser letters and an initial search (to be described below) for the Clark letters were graciously funded by a grant from the Center for Libertarian Studies in New York.

3 We were informed that the University of Vienna archives have no materials concerning any law or economics professor before 1945 for the simple reason that some bomber blew the economics and law department to smithereens in 1945.

4 In addition to those already mentioned, kind help was given us (unfortunately, to no avail) by Professor Ludwig Lachmann of New York University and Dr. Kurt R. Leube of the International Carl Menger Library. Dr. Leube even went so far as to follow a hot lead to a distant relative of Böhm's who, tantalizingly, died only hours before Leube's appearance on his doorstep.
