3 These include separation of power, judicial independence, free and regular elections, restraints on the power of the military, property rights and economic freedom, freedom of expression and right of silence, legal tolerance for expression of personal and group beliefs, respect for desires for self-governance, procedural rights in criminal and civil cases, and acceptance of the constitution and human rights as supreme law.
