Dispersion in inhomogeneous plasma streams

Abstract

The instabilities in a two stream plasma in which the density across the stream is variable are studied from the point of view of a scattering problem. Approximate dispersion relations are developed, one of which is identical with the infinite, homogeneous case. A second relation is obtained which depends upon the scale of density variation.
