Recently, Zong (Reference Zong2023) described two new species of phacopid trilobites, namely Omegops honggulelengensis Zong, Reference Zong2023 and Omegops xiangi Zong, Reference Zong2023 from the Upper Devonian in western Junggar, Xinjiang, China. In the systematic paleontology section, the author has argued that Phacops (Omegops) accipitrinus mobilis Xiang, Reference Xiang1981 was not a subspecies of Omegops accipitrinus but a new species of Omegops (i.e., O. honggulelengensis). In addition, the author has proposed that Clarksonops Crônier in Crônier and Waters, Reference Crônier and Waters2022 is a junior synonym of Omegops Struve, Reference Struve1976 and that its type species, Clarksonops junggariensis Crônier in Crônier and Waters, Reference Crônier and Waters2022, should be reclassified as a new species of Omegops (i.e., O. xiangi). However, the author ignored the validity and priority of the subspecies name mobilis and species name junggariensis (ICZN, 1999, Art. 23), and therefore the preceding two new names are invalid. They should be replaced by Omegops mobilis (Xiang, Reference Xiang1981) n. comb. and Omegops junggariensis (Crônier in Crônier and Waters, Reference Crônier and Waters2022) n. comb., respectively. Thanks, Sven Daasborg, for the kind reminder about the nomenclatural aspects, and the author apologizes for this error.
