Piri Reis: Admiral Extraordinary

Prompted by a recent paper, in which a brief reference is made to Piri Reis (the Turkish term ‘Reis’ is a title corresponding approximately to ‘Naval Commander’), I am persuaded to bring to the notice of readers of the Journal—many of whom perhaps are unacquainted with the name of Piri Reis—the following brief account of the life and work of a brilliant sixteenth-century Turkish admiral.
