As a result of new methods of biochemical investigation an increasing although yet small number of cases of mental deficiency can be shown to be caused by congenital metabolic abnormalities. In 1958 Wright et al., reviewed and classified anomalies of this nature and since than a new syndrome has been described by Allan et al. (1958) and a syndrome closely related to, if not identical with, Maple Syrup Urine Disease by Smith and Strang (1958).
