Editors' Note
Work on this special edition of the Journal began in late fall 2015. Neither the authors nor the editors could have anticipated that the next chapter of American health reform would begin in 2017 under a Trump presidency. In this regard, we know we are in good company. The articles in this special edition do a superb job of assessing the gains made under the Affordable Care Act as well as the challenges that have emerged in the first blush of a massive effort to move this nation to a new normal, in which the vast majority of the population has an affordable pathway to good health insurance. We know that we speak for all of us when we say that what binds our writing group together is a deep and abiding hope that the nation's journey forward will continue, even with the occasional stumble.
