The survival of a medical journal in a changing media climate cannot be taken for granted. The functioning day to day of The Journal of Laryngology & Otology is dependent on the dedicated and largely unremunerated work of our reviewers and assistant editors. They are usually busy clinicians and researchers, and have onerous commitments outside of their main job, including Royal College work, local administration and administrating ENT professional bodies. This work for The Journal of Laryngology & Otology is conducted in ‘premium time’, with implications for work-life balance. Our head and neck reviewers, in particular, have been under more pressure since the pandemic, and we are grateful for their continued help. We must also mention the tireless work by our managing editor, senior editors, trustees and company secretary.

In addition to reviewing articles, our team have been involved in setting up operative video recordings in their hospitals, which involves careful planning and execution. We are grateful to Joel Smith in Exeter and his theatre team for his work on parotid surgery, and Amit Parmar and colleagues at Birmingham Children's Hospital for producing a selection of videos on the subject of paediatric endoscopy. We hope that these videos will be enjoyed by trainees and established clinicians alike. Further videos will be added to the collection each year, focusing on common ENT procedures. We are grateful to Mrs Storz and Ben Pattinson from Storz UK for providing the sponsorship that has helped to fund these very valuable educational resources.

Much of our work is conducted by our small group of senior editors, assistant editors, emeritus editors and international liaison editors, who are listed in the journal's flyleaf and online. We also benefit from a small pool of reviewers who contribute considerably to our work. Patrick Bradley has returned from retirement to help with workflow in head and neck.
