1. A key figure here has been CELAM's long-term Secretary General and President, Msgr. Alfonso López Trujillo. He was recently promoted to Cardinal.

2. A recent example is the hierarchy's condemnation of the Jesuit center, CINEP. Heavy pressure was exerted, both in Rome and within Colombia, to force changes in CINEP's leadership and orientation.
